Current Operating Status

Situation Update

As of Monday, April 26, 2021 2:02 PM EDT

The Albany VA Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics are operational with limited services.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.

COVID-19 Vaccines: The Stratton VA is currently scheduling ALL Veterans (irrespective of character of discharge), Spouses (including widows or widowers), Caregivers, and National Guard, Reserve & Coast Guard (including retired and those never activated). The Albany Stratton VA Medical Center is offering the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to VA-enrolled Veterans based on supply availability van VA/CDC priority distinctions. Enrolled Veterans will be contacted by their PACT team/Primary Care Provider Team. You may also contact your PACT team directly to check on availability.

Johnson & Johnson (Jannsen) Update: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lifted their recommended pause on administering the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.  VA clinical vaccine experts are reviewing the decision and will provide additional updates as they become available.  We appreciate your patience as we maintain our priority; your  health and safety.

Vaccination location and parking: Veterans scheduled for the vaccine should report to our Veterans vaccination clinic located on VA property at Building 67, across the street from AMC (New Scotland Ave.) and across from the AMC garage (along Veterans Way). Veterans with handicap plate or hang-tag designation may park in the lot directly in front of Bldg. 67 (first left after turning on Veterans Way). Veterans without a handicapped designation may park in the staff parking lot directly after the parking garage on the right-hand side. The gate will be left open for Veteran use within close proximity to Bldg. 67. Spots not designated as handicap spots directly in front of Bldg. 67 are not available as open parking spaces.

Vaccination scheduling: We are currently contacting enrolled VA patients to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments, as well as occasionally offering pop-up vaccination events that provides for additional availability. If you haven’t been contacted yet, and would like to know if your eligible for the vaccine yet, please contact your Primary Care Team (PACT) or our Call Center at: (518) 626-7228 then press option 2. For those with appointments, please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your appointment in order to maintain safe distancing. If you have already received the vaccine or have an appointment to receive a vaccine from the Stratton VA, there is nothing further you need to do. If you received your vaccine from an outside provider, please let your PACT team know so we can notate it in your VA Medical Record. Please note that the Stratton VA is also currently planning Rural Health vaccination availability and will provide updates and announcements as they become available.

All other Veterans not enrolled at VA, their Spouses, Caregivers, and National Guard, Reserve & Coast Guard members can call to schedule an appointment at: (518) 626-7228.

What if I’m not enrolled in VA Care and would like to be? If you are a Veteran who isn’t enrolled in VA care yet, please call our Veteran’s Service Center (Business Office) at (518) 626-6743 and ask about enrolling for VA care to take advantage of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine available at the Stratton VA. Veterans who are not enrolled or do not currently receive care at VA can also visit VA's Eligibility web page at: https://www.va.gov/health-care/eligibility/ .

Why get the COVID-19 vaccine? The vaccine will help protect you by lowering the risk of getting the virus and by slowing the spread of the virus. The goal of VA is to offer vaccines to ALL Veterans (irrespective of character of discharge), their Spouses (including widows or widowers), Caregivers, and National Guard, Reserve & Coast Guard (including retired and those never activated) who want it, as well as all VA healthcare workers to ensure we are staffed appropriately to meet your healthcare needs. Receiving the vaccine will help protect you from severe disease or death caused by COVID-19. Research also suggests that it is effective against the newer strains of COVID-19 that have been identified.

Tell me more about the vaccine I will receive.  The Stratton VA is currently providing the Moderna vaccine, given in two doses to maximize the vaccine’s benefit. Your second dose will be scheduled 28 days after your first. There may also be a limited supply of the newly approved Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine, provided as a single dose. Veterans can get the latest information aboutVA’s COVID-19 vaccines at: www.va.gov/health-care/covid-19-vaccine/stay-informed.

Important: Please note that masks are still required at all Federal facilities, even after receiving the vaccine. Continue to wear a mask in public, wash your hands frequently, and practice safe physical distancing (at least six feet) until the virus is under control, which will help maximize protection against the COVID-19 virus as well as limiting the possibility of becoming a carrier, protecting those you love or may come in contact with. Working together, we will overcome this pandemic.
